ABOUT INDREAMS

On August 3rd, 2024 the InDreams Immersive Concert was an invite-only original experience held in downtown Los Angeles' Arts District, hosted by Dolce + Venia Studio, offering an intimate, cathartic evening of music, mixed media, and You.

The night began with our pre-show: a respite from the daily hustle as guests were transported into the Dream. The space intertwined works from local artists through ambient soundscapes, interactive music-tech stations, cutting edge fashion, and mixed-medium sculptures. Here guests connected with fellow dreamers from all walks of life to set the perfect tone for the evening.

The main show featured the InDreams Band, taking guests on a string-driven dream-pop journey with a touch of grit. The audience was suspended in time as they became one with the sound.

The InDreams Immersive Concert was produced by Bravewyld, a collective of wacky and passionate multi-disciplinary volunteers from around the world, united by a desire to create something beautiful in Los Angeles.

I am driven by a deep curiosity to explore the human story, which happens to manifest into creating immersive experiences that remind guests of what it means to be alive.

Even with nearly two decades of experience in the entertainment industry, I still remain curious. I blur the lines between art and engineering, specializing in theme park design, music, film, and interactive / new media art installations, based in the US and Asia as both a creative and business leader, creating vision while also serving as glue for wacky and insanely talented creative-technical teams.

I've had the privilege to be a Creative Director and Inventor as a Walt Disney R&D Imagineer, where I worked alongside and led the remarkably talented teams to design and build large-scale attractions for Disney parks worldwide. Along the way, I was somehow awarded two US patents, the Field Installation Award for Outstanding Work, and selected for the Leadership Enrichment program.

I’ve served as Chief Creative Officer of Fantasy Works Interactive, launching a US-based C-Corp while overseeing an international team between Los Angeles and Shanghai; as Executive Creative Director at MoonShine Animation, contributing to projects like the Tokyo Olympics, Moondream Reality MR Venue, projects for Taiwan’s Culture & Arts Bureau; and commissioned as the Installation Artist / Executive Creative Director for the DigiWave Experience as part of Taiwan’s Design Expo. I now freelance for various clients including Audi, Honda, Asus, NASA, and the United Nations.

My music career has evolved from cello and guitar performance to my own unique sound of string-driven shoegaze + dreamy vocals with a dash of grit. I compose for spatial audio systems on complex systems of up to 250 speakers (so far), and have worked on soundtracks for films and games across various genres, from cyberpunk to aboriginal music.

On the side, I have founded the Vox Photo Project - teaching photography as a means of giving voice to underserved communities, collaborating with diplomats and public policy makers to develop solutions for the global south; Creative Courage - a participatory workshop series open to all disciplines that exercise the creative mindset, with lessons including ideation to production workflow, the "Logic" of Creativity, and sustaining Creative Health in a corporate environment; and Bravewyld - an artist-tech collective based in Los Angeles.

If you can’t find me, I’m either making music, playing Nintendo, taking a nap, or swimming with sea turtles. 🌊

Sam is a local Angelino, bringing design and engineering together to create artistic works that spark curiosity and imagination. With her Masters in Design Engineering and BXA in Mechanical Engineering / Product Design, Sam uses robotics, physical computing, and user experience to craft projects that are both innovative and impactful. Her creations invite people to see the world in new ways, blending practicality with a sense of wonder and possibility.

TV Stack Description:

These are bootleg funhouse mirrors that represent the passing of time and rotting of minds as we all grow together. Here society is likened to a carnival– a space where reality is bent and perceptions are skewed. Just as funhouse mirrors warp and reshape our reflections, this piece transforms the viewer into whimsical representations of themselves in real time. It invites the viewer to ponder their roles within the grand spectacle– who are the clowns?

Yet within this distortion, there’s space for silliness, beauty and joy. The piece invites viewers to engage physically, moving through space, with friends or alone while manipulating their own image.

The installation embodies both the decay and vibrancy of our shared human experience, made in touchdesigner and powered by real time stable diffusion.

My work has always been about exploration and evolution. As I have grown personally and professionally, my artwork has continued to evolve. I am always looking for new challenges by exploring different materials, processes and techniques. The pieces in this show represent a partial cross-section of work I have produced throughout my life and career as an artist.

My studies in biology, and my intrigue with anatomy, led me to develop what I refer to as my “Anatomical Series”. During this phase of artwork, I was also involved in fulfilling commissions for functional art - that is; unique tables, chairs and lamps out of exotic hardwoods and cast bronze. Developing fine-woodworking techniques and joinery, paved the way for my ability to utilize wood in new and unique ways by also incorporating the “lost-wax” bronze casting process. In combination, these materials enabled me to realize the shapes and forms necessary to generate the “Anatomical Series”, as well as fabricating some of the structural elements of my functional art pieces.

From the “Anatomical Series” to my present work, there have been numerous changes in direction and choice of materials, from glass to steel to aluminum, found objects, etc. The body of work immediately following the Anatomical Series was my “TV series”. These pieces incorporate found aero-space fittings, “life-mask” fiberglass castings of personal friends (forming TV picture tubes), and photographic images of each person’s face, cut up and layered on strips of glass as the TV screen.

Other series represented in this show include the “My Dystopia” series, the “MeToo Series”, the Table-Top series and the “Jawless Series”.
